Understanding the three MOQ levels

Fabrikatör offers three different levels of Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) settings to give you flexibility in managing your inventory requirements:

  1. Variant Level MOQ

  2. Product Option Level MOQ

  3. Product Group Level MOQ

Each level applies to a different scope of your product structure and affects how purchase orders are generated.

Comparison of MOQ types

Example

Variant Level

Individual variants

When specific variants have unique minimum order requirements

Must order at least 6 units of Small Red T-shirts

Product Option Level

All variants within an option

When suppliers require minimums for each color/size/material for specific product group

Must order at least 24 Red T-shirts total (across all sizes)

Product Group Level

All variants across all options

When suppliers have a minimum for the entire product

Must order at least 100 T-shirts total (any combination of colors and sizes)

Xxplanation of MOQ hierarchy

Product: T-shirt

  • Product Group MOQ: 100 (applies to all t-shirts)

    • Option: Red

      • Option MOQ: 24 (applies to all red t-shirts)

        • Variant: Small - Variant MOQ: 6

        • Variant: Medium - Variant MOQ: 8

        • Variant: Large - Variant MOQ: 6

    • Option: Blue

      • Option MOQ: 24 (applies to all blue t-shirts)

        • Variant: Small - Variant MOQ: 6

        • Variant: Medium - Variant MOQ: 8

        • Variant: Large - Variant MOQ: 6

How to choose the right MOQ type for your needs

  • Use Variant Level MOQs when different variants have distinct ordering requirements

  • Use Product Option Level MOQs when your supplier requires minimum quantities for each color, size, or material of spefic product group

  • Use Product Group Level MOQs when your supplier only cares about the total quantity across all variants

  • Use a combination when your supplier has requirements at multiple levels
