When your customers get a refund for the backordered items, Fabrikatör makes it super easy to handle everything automatically! Here's what happens and how you can keep track of these refunds.
Fabrikatör handles refunds automatically
When a customer refunds a backordered item, Fabrikatör takes care of everything for you:
✓ Spots the refund coming from Shopify right away
✓ Updates all your backorder records instantly
✓ Frees up the backorder slot so you can sell it to someone else
✓ Keeps the refund data for your pricing calculations
✓ Creates a clear record in your activity log
Common refund scenarios you'll encounter
1. Early Cancellation (Before Fulfillment)
This happens when a customer cancels before you ship anything:
The entire backorder slot becomes available immediately
A full refund is processed
No inventory movement happens
Your customer gets a quick, hassle-free cancellation
2. Partial Order Cancellation
When a customer only wants to cancel part of their order:
Only the selected items are removed
A partial refund is processed
The rest of the items stay in the backorder
Only specific backorder slots are freed up
Important Note:
Currently, Fabrikatör only handles the scenarios above (Early Cancellation and Partial Order Cancellation). The following scenarios are not yet supported:
Refund After Partial Fulfillment: When a customer receives part of the order and wants to return remaining items
Order Edits: Modifications to existing backorders
We're working on adding these features in a future update!
Viewing refunds is quick and easy
Step 1: Find your backorder
Click on the Backorders tab in the main menu, then select the specific backorder you want to check.
Step 2: Check the Customer Orders section
Here you'll see all your orders with clear refund information:
For example, you might see:
"11 items sold for USD 1,331 via Order #1093. 10 items were removed from the order."
"4 items sold for USD 484 via Order #1092. All items were removed from the order."
The system clearly shows:
How many items were originally sold
The order number (which is clickable)
How many items were refunded
The store URL
Step 3: Look at the Activities log
Scroll down to see a complete history of all refunds, including:
The exact time each refund happened
How many items were refunded
Any status changes that occurred
How your backorder capacity was affected
How refunds affect your pricing
Fabrikatör has made an important update to how pricing works with refunds:
Old way: Pricing only counted items that stayed sold
New way: Pricing includes both sold items AND refunded items
Quick tip for managing refunds
Keep an eye on your "Activities log" to spot patterns in when customers tend to refund orders. This can help you adjust your backorder strategy to reduce refund rates!
