You can display this policy in the cart using Fabrikatör’s existing app block. To display a separate policy on product pages, use the Custom Liquid snippet attached to this article.
These messages explain your shipping policy. They don’t change how orders are fulfilled.
Before you start
Complete the Backorder Setup Guide, including enabling the Fabrikatör Pre-Order app embed and adding the Pre-order Shipment Date block.
Have a product with an active pre-order available for testing. Ideally, use a product with both a pre-order variant and an in-stock variant.
That's how it will look:
1. Add your policy to the cart page
In Shopify, go to Online Store → Themes and open Customize for your theme.
Select the Cart template from the page selector.
Select Fabrikatör Cart Embed. If it isn’t present, add it through Add block → Apps in a section that supports app blocks.
Replace the Pre-Order Cart Message with your policy.
Click Save.
For example:
All your items will be shipped together when the pre-order item is ready to be shipped.
Use wording that reflects how your store handles mixed orders and orders containing multiple pre-order items.
The cart message is intended for carts containing Fabrikatör pre-order items. If your theme uses a slide-out cart drawer, check that separately: adding a block to the cart page doesn’t automatically add it to the drawer.
2. Add a conditional policy to product pages
The Shipment Info Text field in the Pre-order Shipment Date block is followed by the shipment date. Keep that field for a short introduction such as “Ships from.”
For a longer policy, add a separate Custom Liquid block.
Download the attached fabrikator-preorder-shipping-policy.liquid file and open it in a text editor. The file is at the end of this page.
In Shopify’s theme editor, open the product template used by your pre-order products.
In the main product information section, select Add block → Custom Liquid. Some themes call this block Liquid.
Copy the entire contents of the downloaded file into the block’s code field.
Edit the Pre-order policy heading and the sample policy sentence to match your store’s wording.
Position the block near the purchase button, preferably immediately above it.
Keep Fabrikatör’s Pre-order Shipment Date block in the same product information section.
Click Save.
If your products use multiple templates, repeat these steps for each relevant template.
The snippet reads Fabrikatör’s pre-order information for the selected variant. It is designed to show the policy for a pre-order variant and hide it when the customer selects an in-stock variant.
Theme compatibility: This snippet was tested with Dawn and a customized Prestige theme. Other themes may require adjustments to how the snippet finds the selected variant or responds to variant changes. Contact Fabrikatör support if it doesn’t update correctly in your theme.
3. Test on your storefront
Open the actual storefront outside the theme editor and check:
Select a pre-order variant: the policy, pre-order button text and shipment date should appear.
Select an in-stock variant: the custom policy and pre-order shipment date should disappear, and the button should return to its normal text.
Switch back without refreshing: the pre-order information should return.
Reload with each variant selected: the displayed information should match that variant.
Check the cart: the policy should appear when a pre-order item is present and disappear when no pre-order items remain.
Also check the mobile layout.
Can I show the policy at checkout?
The instructions above add the policy to your product and cart pages.
Shopify restricts checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps to Shopify Plus.
Stores on Basic, Grow or Advanced can use the product and cart placements described here to communicate the policy before checkout. See Shopify’s checkout customization guidance.
Fabrikatör’s delivery-date line-item note can still appear beneath the pre-order item at checkout. That note is separate from the longer policy added using this guide.
Troubleshooting
The policy appears twice
Check for an existing policy in another Liquid, text or app block. Keep one product-page policy block and retain the separate shipment-date block.
The policy appears for in-stock variants or doesn’t update
Confirm that you copied the full snippet and placed it in the main product information section alongside the Fabrikatör shipment-date block. If the issue continues, send support the product URL, theme name and affected variants.
The policy is correct, but the pre-order button isn’t
The custom policy snippet doesn’t control the purchase button.
Fabrikatör uses the Add to cart button selector and Form selector under App embeds → Fabrikatör Pre-Order to find your product’s purchase controls.
Some themes also contain purchase forms in recommendations or cart drawers, so a general selector can target the wrong form.
Contact Fabrikatör support to confirm the correct selectors for your theme. Include the product URL, affected variant and whether the issue happens on initial load or after switching variants.
