Fabrikatör gives you complete flexibility to edit your demand plan at any time during your inventory planning process. This article explains how your edits affect your supply planning and purchase orders.
Your demand plan serves as the foundation for your supply planning. When you edit quantities, add products, or make other changes to your demand plan, these adjustments can impact your recommended purchase orders.
Timeline of Demand Plan Edits
Before Converting to Supply Plan
When you edit your demand plan before generating a supply plan:
All changes are immediately saved
No impact on purchase orders (as none have been created yet)
Your edits will be fully reflected when you generate your supply plan
After Converting to Supply Plan
What happens to your edits depends on the status of your purchase orders:
1. Impact on Recommended Purchase Orders
Any recommended purchase orders that have not yet been converted to actual POs will:
Automatically update to reflect your demand plan changes
Adjust quantities based on your new forecasts
Update suggested order dates if applicable

2. Impact on Converted Purchase Orders
Purchase orders that have already been converted to Draft or Approved status will:
Remain unchanged by your demand plan edits
Maintain their original quantities and order dates
Not be automatically adjusted to match your new demand plan
This protection ensures that POs you've already processed won't be disrupted by subsequent demand plan changes.
How to Update Your Supply Plan After Editing
After making changes to your demand plan, follow these steps to update your supply plan:
Navigate to your Demand Plan page
Review your changes to ensure they're accurate
Click the "Update Supply Plan" button at the top of the page
Your recommended POs will recalculate based on your updated demand
Note: This update will only affect recommended POs that haven't been converted yet. Your existing Draft and Approved POs will remain intact.
Best Practices for Editing Your Demand Plan
To maintain effective inventory planning when editing your demand plan:
Make Regular Reviews: Schedule monthly reviews of your demand plan to ensure it stays aligned with your business goals
Check Impact on Inventory Levels: After updating your supply plan, review projected inventory levels to ensure you won't face stockouts
Consider Lead Times: Remember that changes to products with long lead times may require more immediate action
Example Scenario
Initial Situation:
You forecast 100 units of Product A for June
Your supply plan recommends ordering 100 units in April (based on a 60-day lead time)
After Editing:
You increase your forecast to 150 units for June
Your updated supply plan will recommend 150 units instead
If you've already converted the original 100-unit PO to Draft status, new additional Recommended PO will be created with the additional 50 units
