SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)

  • Definition: SKU is the product identifier that is fetched directly from your store.

  • Purpose: It uniquely identifies products within your own inventory system.

  • Usage: Used internally to manage and track products.

Supplier SKU

  • Definition: Supplier SKU is an optional field that allows you to input the SKU that your supplier uses for the same product.

  • Purpose: It ensures accurate communication with your suppliers by using the identifiers they recognize.

  • Usage: Especially useful when creating Purchase Orders (POs) to avoid any confusion or mistakes with product identification.

Key Points

  • Internal vs. Supplier Identifier: While the SKU is your internal product identifier, the Supplier SKU is what your supplier uses to identify the same product.

  • Optional Field: If your supplier uses the same SKU as your internal one, you do not need to fill out the Supplier SKU. This field is not mandatory but can be helpful for managing POs.

  • Streamlining POs: Including the Supplier SKU in your POs can help ensure that there are no misunderstandings when ordering from your suppliers.

When to Use Supplier SKU

  • Different Identifiers: If your supplier uses a different SKU for the product, it's beneficial to input this in the Supplier SKU field.

  • Optional Entry: If you're still being prompted for Supplier SKU, you can skip this field unless you find it necessary for your process.
